QualiCal, PSI's High Temperature Solar Technology Laboratory (HTL) and ETH's Institute of Energy Technology are jointly exploring the potential of an Industrial Solar Lime Plant. HTL will bring its expertise in developing the science and technology of high temperature solar chemical processes. Qualical will bring its expertise in developing technology for the lime industry.

  QualiCal propose Synthesis® twin shaft technology for high/medium rectivity lime production at lowest costs: The plant produce different products as quicklime having reactivity values in the range 30 sec/1.5 min, to meet the needs of iron, chemical and building industry.

  The lime burning processes with the regenerative system, which take place in twin shaft kilns, have for some time demonstrated their superiority compared with the processes in counter-current which take place in single-shaft furnaces: superior quality of the produced lime, and lower heat consumption per ton of product.

  Synthesis® is a twin shaft kiln with variable sections (patented).

The Synthesis® kiln differs from the others existing "twin shaft" because of the variable section of the shafts: round or elliptical in the preheating and burning zones, rectangular in the cooling zone.

This Synthesis® original and patent-pending solution allows a uniform calcination process, mainly due to the symmetry of the "round" shape.

Moreover, Synthesis® was designed geometrically to have a straight channel connecting the two shaft: this single arch is already proven which is simple, cheap and build-up free solution.

  Solutions for medium/low reactive lime are also available with MonoLite® single shaft verical kiln.
