QualiCal Synthesis H2 lime kiln and Carbon Direct Avoidance by using Hydrogen burners

QualiCal Synthesis H2 lime kiln and Carbon Direct Avoidance by using Hydrogen burners

Thanks to the flexible and versatile design of QualiCal kiln, the Synthesis original design has been updated considering the possibility to use hydrogen fuels also.

#neverstopINNOVATING

Hydrogen is the future, not yet the present

“Society needs to move away from all fossil fuels as quickly as possible, and truly green hydrogen — produced by electrolysis generated from renewable electricity — can play an important role. Blue hydrogen, instead, provides no benefit.”- Carlo Cella QualiCal CEO — “Blue hydrogen is just a distraction, something that can delay the action needed to truly decarbonize the global energy economy.”

What is hydrogen

When the term ‘hydrogen’ is used in the energy sector, it refers to a simple molecule of two hydrogen atoms: H2. Creating hydrogen uses a lot of energy, and splitting it apart releases that energy again. This means that generating hydrogen, then using it, works a little like charging and discharging a battery.

It isn’t possible for hydrogen to outperform a conventional battery in many areas. That said, there is huge potential for hydrogen to replace fossil fuels in areas that are especially energy-intensive or where other zero emissions solutions are unavailable, like steel-making and long-range transport. Hydrogen can be used in many other sectors as well, from fertiliser production to simple energy storage to powering fuel cells in cars and ships.

We still have a long way to go to arrive at green hydrogen, fuelled by renewable sources, while black hydrogen, powered by fossil fuels — coal, in particular — is out of the question, being far too polluting without carbon capture.

Research and some serious thinking about hydrogen are an option to be followed, but the economic projections urge caution and realistic choices for the long period.

Hydrogen usage in lime industry

As one of the key OEM in the LIME field, QualiCal is at the farefront in observing the changes occurring in the industry always seeking for possible technological and technical solution in order to face the huge challenges, that nowadays seems to be bigger and bigger.

Climate Change is already revolution our work and private life and will do so more and more in the future. This why every business, on a global scale, should already schedule, on a urgent basis, a roadmap to reduce carbon footprint in near terms.

Reducing Carbon footprint coming from the kiln combustion

There are some ways to follow this goal, one of this is the CARBON DIRECT AVOIDANCE (CDA), that is the avoidance of CO2 by using regenerative fuels, hydrogen burners, oxygen burners and electrical kiln.
